Violeta Díaz is Associate Dean and Emil C.E. Jurica Professor of Finance at the Greehey School of Business. Díaz is an award-winning researcher with 20 years of teaching experience. At the Greehey School of Business, Díaz is the Faculty Advisor of the $4.2 million Student Managed Fund and frequently advises and prepares students for finance competitions, internships, and graduate school. Prior to joining St. Mary’s University, she was Assistant Professor at New Mexico State University where she led the banking program and taught varied undergraduate and graduate courses. Before earning her Ph.D. in Finance from The University of Texas-Pan American, she taught at Monterrey Tech in Monterrey, Mexico. She has been visiting professor in Italy and Mexico.

Her recent scholarly work has been published in top journals in her discipline, such as the Journal of Banking and Finance, Managerial Finance, and Financial Research Letters. She has presented her research at the Financial Management Association (FMA), the American Economic Association (AEA), and other major academic conferences in the U.S. and abroad.

Díaz is passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion and being a role model, not only to her students, but also to her two lovely daughters, Teresa and Mercedes.
